Wood pellets in the world

In 2005, Fibreco entered the wood pellet terminal handling business. BC’s wood pellet production has grown dramatically since that time in response to increasing demand from the European biomass market. To accommodate the new business six storage silos and a large flat storage shed have been built, resulting in storage for 45,000 tonnes of wood pellets which is equivalent to one handymax or supramax vessel.

Maine Woods Pellet Co. owns and operates a state of the art wood pellet production facility in Athens Maine. This facility is situated on a 55 acre site that was developed solely to concentrate on the highly efficient production of wood pellet fuel. Our raw materials come from sustainable woodlands that are owned and managed by our partners who are certified Master Loggers as well as clean wood chips and sawdust from a network of sawmills.

Central Heating Boilers Fuelled by Wood Pellets

Pellets are made of 100% natural wood. Shavings and sawdust are compressed under high pressure and pressed into small cylindrical rolls and held together by lignin, contained naturally in the wood. This results in a clean, convenient fuel with a high calorific value and very low ash content (0.2%). Every year, more wood is renewed than is consumed. All of these facts are what makes the most convenient of all wood fuels such an interesting alternative in terms of both ecology and economy.
